ZeGeVege slams into town THIS weekend — Friday 4 through Sunday 6 September 2026 — and it is taking over Europski trg like a plant-powered carnival.
This is the 18th edition of Croatia’s big vegan-and-sustainable-living bash. Free. Loud. Full of food. No excuses.

Not a polite little market. Think street festival + vegan food fair + animal-rights rally + sustainability expo all smashed onto one square.
Organised by Prijatelji životinja, it packs in about 60 exhibitors and restaurants: plant-based producers, natural cosmetics, eco goods, NGOs, activists. The pitch is blunt: plant-based living is not a hairshirt. It can be tasty, cheap-ish and doable — and it comes bolted to animal protection, climate talk and “what are you actually buying?”

Ahmed Labban is the wildcard. That’s the tabloid hook hiding under the oat milk: veganism + muscle + masculinity. Not your usual smoothie-bar sermon.

Michele Borzoni / Silent Springs
Main ZeGeVege stage. Climate activists, not pretty landscapes. Then the seven-photo exhibition and the photobook.

Italian photographer Michele Borzoni rolls into Zagreb with Silent Springs — a project that follows climate activists across Europe, not pretty landscapes.
Main slot: Friday, 18:00, main stage, in conversation with Valentina Balgavi. In English.
So the square isn’t just burgers. It’s climate protest + photography + social punch-up sitting next to the animal-rights stalls.
The 18th edition has a brand-new look by Croatian illustrator Ivana Mrčela: animals and plant food gone slightly feral — gorilla in a Plant Power shirt, cat with a vegan tortilla, punk rooster, cow necking oat milk. Tabloid gold. Print it on a tote and start a fight.

And the organisers say it out loud: you do not have to be vegan. Come nosy. Come hungry. Leave without joining a cult.
If you care about veganism, climate activism, animal rights or sustainable living, this is one of Zagreb’s most on-the-nose weekends of the year. 🌱

The dates are a gift: Zagreb Museum Weekend runs 3–6 September, overlapping the 20th Dani Bistre, 4–6 September. Friday stops being “a hike plus tofu” and becomes a Medvednica cultural double-header. No second trip required. 😄
Silent Springs is not gentle nature porn. Borzoni documented Extinction Rebellion, Code Rouge, Ende Gelände, Last Generation and the rest — blockades, disruptions, rows with the authorities.

Park Zagreb Museum Weekend in the middle of the day. Museums and shows while the light is good. Then flip the switch: Bistra’s programme is another planet entirely.
Saturday is also the Bistranska Čušpajzijada: 24 teams, eight kinds of čušpajz, pots on from 15:00, judging from 17:00, winner crowned at 19:30.
The joke almost writes itself:

A weekend about different ways of making things. Printed digital-art postcards become the third plotline: my work + village culture + Zagreb’s museum machine.
Carry the cards and Sunday can be the Bistra / local-community edition instead of another museum slog.
