The Bauhaus closed in 1933 under mounting Nazi pressure. After political attacks forced it from Dessau to a short-lived private existence in Berlin, a Gestapo raid and demands for ideological changes made reopening impossible. The school was not formally banned by a single decree; it was effectively dismantled through political pressure, funding cuts and conditions its faculty rejected.
